The usage of blackboard in classroom had its own evolvement and development process. As a teaching tool that can be used repeatedly , it originated from the apply of the sand plate or slate by the ancient scholar. Following the invention of paper, the writing and painting tool became pencil and paper domestically while abroad in Europe feather pen and paper. In consideration of the expensiveness and one-time using shortcomings, the self-made and cost-efficient sand plate or slate still existed in modern times. Digging into details, for the sand plate, first to put some sand in the flat plate, then scatch on it by the use of stick or branch, and when you flattened the sand , you could wirte it repeatedly. While for the slate, it was made of special stone meterial, when you wrote or scratched on it , that could be easily eliminated so that it could be used several times.
Soon, it came the use of the pencil and paper in stead of the sand plate or slate, and then pen and ball-pen. The pictures or writings made from pencil can be erased off within limited times, but it was not for the use of pen and ball-pen. Whatsoever, the relative tools applied in classroom must meet the requirements such as presentation in face of the student, used repeatly, cost-effcient so the invention and development of the blackboard and chalk found its own foundation in the technical, educational and economical background.
Since the modern times, the blackboard and the chalk already established a stable status in the traditional teaching in schools. Professor Yu,from Communication Institude of Hong Kong Chinese University,once pointed out that, most teachers from the traditional schools still believe that the success of the study, mainly depends on the teacher while not the teaching material and the method.
It occured many excellent educators in the world, such as Confucius, Plato and Aristotle, all adopted the simplest face-to-face instruction,except the language itself, none of new technical medias were concerned.
Lots of great men appeared in latest centuries also educated in the extremely crude classroom, except the textbook and the blackboard, there was no any medias there; (Yelu Yu, 1982). Halas and Harris,from US, also pointed out that,since several centuries,people all believe that, in the communication, the character is more superior than the visual image, and, the character contains the high wisdom and the thought.Now the faith still the basic for the education in the developed countries (Halas and Harris, 1982). Since last later century, we have experienced from the blackboard to the electronic interactive tabula evolution.This process mainly came through the following three steps:

First, in order to avoid the dust violating to the teacher and student's health, various of dustless chalks began to be used and improved, but the effect is not so good, thus, the written tabula was adopted.The written tabula was made by various of materials (lumber, metal, plastic plate and so on),accordingly, kinds of colored written pen was also used,and so did the specially made eraser for cleaning the calligraphy and painting content.
Nowadays, there are still massive written tabula used in the different countries, by anyway, not a common throughout,especially in the elementary and middle schools.The deep reason caused that written tabula is not a patch on chalk, probably due to the following aspects: the market is for the teachers and students, moreover, chalks are easier for recycling and meanwhile lower cost.
Till the end of last century, the written tabula rasa developped to be the electronic tabula rasa. At the very beginning,the electronic tabula rasa was provided the written tabula rasa with electronic installation, that may save the calligraphy and painting content and which was printable and can be distribute to the students or the receivers. Afterwards, the calligraphy and painting content on the electronic tabula rasa can be reserved into the computer and then further processed and the transmited (such as email).Certainly, the electronic tabula rasa also can be used as the projection screen board of the computer.But at that time, the electronic tabula rasa and the computer reciprocity is always unidirectional.
